Introduce the routine one step at a time
Start by showing students how a die roll points them to one choice on the Roll & Write page. Read the selected parts aloud together before asking students to copy a complete sentence.
Keep the same language for every theme: roll, read, write, and draw. Once students know the routine, a new seasonal page feels familiar rather than like a new set of directions.

Use the story starter after sentence practice
After students have written sentences, the story-starter roll gives them a concrete beginning for a longer piece of writing. The Story Map helps them plan characters, setting, and events before they begin the full story page.
This preserves the same playful entry point while giving writers a clear next step when they are ready to write more than one sentence.
Keep the teacher check-in focused
During the first uses, listen for students reading the full sentence before writing it. Later, use a quick check-in to notice one writing skill such as capitalization, spacing, punctuation, or a story detail.
The repeated structure makes it easy to use the same short feedback routine across all five themes.
